The uLaunch Manjimup team has been actively supporting participants in their journey to meaningful employment. Recently, they shared the success stories of Ann-Marie and Andrew, who secured new jobs with the dedicated assistance of Ebony Williams, an Employment Consultant at uLaunch Manjimup.
Ann-Marie’s Story
Ann-Marie, 38, is a determined individual eager to work despite facing challenges with her intellectual disability and hearing loss. She uses a cochlear implant and has concerns that potential employers may be unsure how to support her in the workplace.
When Ann-Marie connected with Ebony, she learned how uLaunch specialise in finding great workers with diverse backgrounds for employers and have connections that can make workplace adjustments to tailor unique circumstances.
Ebony explored Ann-Maries work interests and capabilities and soon pitched suitable jobs for Ann-Marie. A position at Café Brasil, a local café, came up and Ann-Marie was over the moon to be considered for this role.
Ebony facilitated an employer visit, and in November, Ann-Marie proudly began her new role. With her intellectual disability she struggles to read and write, so Ebony worked with the employer to tailor Ann-Marie’s duties accordingly. Ann-Marie’s duties include setting up the café each morning, arranging tables and chairs, and assisting with food preparation. The employer also encourages her colleagues to explain instructions more clearly and advocates for her in those situations where she may not understand.
uLaunch is committed to supporting both participants and employers. Ann-Marie’s role was made possible with a wage subsidy provided to the employer, along with financial assistance for her work attire.
As Ann-Marie thrives in her new role working her benchmark hours per week, Ebony is working closely with post placement support for both the employer and Ann-Marie to facilitate her continued growth.

Andrew's Story
Andrew required support from uLaunch after becoming eligible for assistance through the Disability Management Service due to Bursitis, Capsulitis, and Tendonitis.
When Andrew connected with Ebony, she began by updating his resume and referring him to a Jobs and Skills Centre for job matching. She also assisted him with a Centrelink visit to complete his registration with uLaunch.
Once registered with uLaunch, Ebony worked closely with Andrew to prepare him for re-entering the workforce. This included practicing interview skills, time management, and strategies to manage his disability.
Andrew’s determination and proactive approach soon led to an opportunity with Tall Timbers that aligned with his abilities. He successfully secured the position and received financial assistance for a new mobile phone and work clothing.
To further aid Andrew’s career progression, uLaunch arranged for him to obtain a forklift license, enhancing his opportunity for long-term career growth.
With ongoing support from Ebony, Andrew is meeting his benchmark hours and is on track to complete 13 weeks of employment by early January.
