In a vibrant celebration of culture and creativity, the uLaunch NDIS team, in collaboration with RISE Ventures and the Kowanyama Council, hosted a t-shirt design competition in Kowanyama. Aimed at boosting community engagement and honouring NAIDOC Week, the event invited local children to express their artistic talents through unique designs. The winner received a $200 prize, and the five runners up received grocery and meat trays as consolation prizes.
To kickstart this initiative, uLaunch hosted art sessions at the NDIS Community Hub in Kowanyama and the competition kicked off! The response was fantastic, with over 25 incredible entries showcasing the diverse creativity of Kowanyama’s youth. After careful consideration, a year five student from Kowanyama State School emerged as the winner with a stunning design that captured the spirit of the community.
In recognition of the effort and pride behind the winning artwork, the uLaunch NDIS team decided to commission 200 t-shirts featuring the design, ensuring that the celebration extended beyond July.
After months of work transforming the artwork into a digital format, sourcing a supplier and getting them created, the shirts were produced and presented to the students at Kowanyama State School last week.
The event culminated in a joyful presentation attended by the Kowanyama Council, RISE Ventures staff, and members of the uLaunch team. This initiative not only celebrated NAIDOC Week but also fostered a sense of pride and unity within the community by building connections through creativity.
