Dallas came to Joblife with a long term dream he never thought possible, and that was to buy his own car.
Dallas is now well on the way to realising his dream, thanks to the support he has received from Joblife while working in his position as a Kitchen Hand at the Park Avenue Hotel in Rockhampton.
With limited formal schooling and work history, Dallas was assessed by Centrelink and referred to Joblife for support to find employment.
Dallas also had some learning difficulties, ADD, Autism, and extreme social anxiety, and struggled when placed into group settings.
Even in his appointments with Joblife, Dallas preferred to have an Advocate with him to speak on his behalf.
After several meetings getting to know Dallas and with the help of his advocate, Our Employment Consultant Noella was able to assist Dallas to identify his employment goals and the support required to assist him to achieve them.
An opportunity arose with a local restaurant who were looking for staff, Noella encouraged and supported Dallas in his application, and an interview was arranged. Soon after the interview he was offered the job!
With continued support from Joblife Rockhampton, Dallas has been working in Kitchen Hand positions for over a year and is now securely employed at Park Avenue Hotel.
Dallas is continuing to work on his confidence and independence and was recently quoted as saying:
“I feel like a normal 20-year-old, going out with my friends and getting a tattoo.” and
“Joblife helped me become a better person by encouraging self-improvement, supporting me with decisions and empowering me to become independent”.
