Mental health issues and a physical back injury were formidable barriers Brendan faced. With uLaunch’s guidance, he accessed mental health services, mentoring, and motivational counselling. These resources were pivotal in his journey to reclaim his life and career. Brendan’s resilience shone through as he was determined to not only rebuild himself but also uplift others.
Preparation for Work:
As Brendan embarked on his traineeship with uLaunch, he underwent a transformation. He emerged as an Employment Support Officer, a role he has held for the past 15 months. He completed a dual qualification: Certificate IV in Career Development and Certificate IV in Employment Services. Armed with this knowledge, Brendan began encouraging others to pursue their passions and goals.
Award-Winning Inspiration:
Brendan’s remarkable journey earned him a nomination for the Western Australia Training Award in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander category. This prestigious award recognised Brendan’s inspirational impact, not only on his colleagues but also on his community. He embraced public speaking, becoming a role model for others, and joined the Youth Suicide Committee to improve work opportunities for Aboriginal people.

In his role, Brendan has used his skills to connect with stakeholders, fostering collaboration and communication within the Indigenous local community. He has added depth and meaning to his job by using his newfound expertise to enhance relationships and expand the local workforce.
